  i wonder if this guy (hugo montgomery-swan) works for the bbc?

  he looks the type.

  i have seen him a number of time doing this wholesome-jw-family-act courtesy of my liscence fee!.

  Wow - I can't believe I missed this. This is a very sanitised version of JW activities, it would have been interesting if concepts such as shunning were explored.

  I can't help feel sorry for JW kids who might have been teased/bullied by classmates who watched that programme. Did anyone notice that the presenter was wearing a poppy? Was this deliberate to show that JWs don't have a problem with war remembrance?

  It was a nice marketing ploy but missed an opportunity - people forget that a young woman lost her life and left new born babies motherless. This appeared to be dismissed and the issue could have been pushed harder. I would like to see a weighty current affairs programme pick this up.

  I dug out the newspaper article with the pic - according to the Sunday Mail there were 27 baptisms. It's hard to judge the age range but one or two looked young and one a lot older.

  The attendants have the obligatory wet t-shirt beer belly look....

  I bet most would be kids. There was a picture in the Scottish Sunday Mail newspaper but I can't find it on line. I should still have it in the house and will have a look.

  Notice they didn't mention bars/pubs!

  One thing that jumped out at me was the stressing of not doing anything other with your free evening than "worship". This equated to studying WTS publications. One demonstration featured a brother being offered some short-term overtime over a few evenings. He reasons that he could do so now that he had 4 evenings free per week, but then rationlised that it would eat into his 'study time'.

  Yep - same old rubbish - Jehovah will provide. I wonder if it would be a good idea to have some direct debits set up with the Bank of Jehovah.

  I applaud Hobo Ken's courage. It's ok to post experiences on here and people can read what happens in a jc. There is a big difference between that and actually 'hearing' reality.

  This proves beyond doubt that posters' written experiences are not exaggerated and allows the skeptics to eavesdrop on something they wouldn't normally have access to. This is an incredibly powerful tool to have at our disposal thanks to the brave individuals who put their neck on the block.

  If 50 out of 8,000 are new, that is 0.625% of an increase

  Whoops - sorry for the crap arithmetic - however it still shows the very slow increase.

  Does anyone remember the Murrayfield assemblies? 2-3 days of torture in the Scottish Summer. How people with small children coped with that I don't know!

  Some info regarding the above. A few interesting points, particularly about the 'spend'. Approx 50 dunked out of 8000 so a whopping increase of 0.006%. They have also booked up for next year - Armageddon permitting. Let's hope they pull out all the stops for 2014.

  The article also notes that the dunking ceremony took place in the stadium rather than the local pool. Is this perhaps a way to energise the troops?

  It looks like the football club are happy to take the money but don't know or care what kind of organisation they are encouraging.

  we all love it when people pay attention to us or our opinions.

  but what i am talking about is people who crave and force attention from others.

  not just people who talk a lot, but those that force everyone around them to focus on them and them only.. in one of my classes there is a woman who raises her hand to ask a question, but never really has a question to ask.

  Having read this thread my mind gets inevitably drawn back to Trevor/Linda/Cast of thousands. Trevor was the same - thinking that he himself wasn't enough to interest people. This must have lead him to creating the alter egos whose basic purpose was to make him appear much better than his own self esteem would allow.

  Whenever I chatted with Linda I noticed that pretty much every second sentence was about how wonderful Trevor was etc etc and she didn't have much to say that didn't relate back to him in some way. In fact it was a lot like a love sick teenager would behave and after a while got a bit tedious. Yes, I did feel awful about thinking like that when 'she' became ill!!

  At the root of it all seems to be a lack of self acceptance - no one will like me for being ordinary or humdrum, I have to be this really interesting person with such a drama fuelled life! Probably most people would have found Trevor to be an alright guy if he had just been himself.

  Personally I steer clear of some drama related posts, must be the dour Scot in me!
